Mosquito Control

Burlington sits at the heart of Alamance County, and the Haw River runs right through it. That waterway, along with Alamance Creek, Lake Mackintosh to the west, and the wooded corridors that connect them, creates a mosquito environment that is significantly more active than in more open suburban communities. Burlington homeowners who spend time outdoors between May and October know this firsthand. The question is whether you spend those months reacting to mosquitoes or preventing them.

Neuse Termite and Pest Control now serves Burlington from our Alamance County location at 3671 Alamance Rd. We offer professional mosquito control on a 21-day treatment cycle that aligns with the biology of the pest and keeps your yard consistently protected through the full active season.

Why Burlington Has a Significant Mosquito Problem

Burlington's geography puts steady pressure on residential properties throughout mosquito season. Several factors keep that pressure elevated across the city.

  • Haw River and Alamance Creek corridors: These waterways and their adjacent wetlands support large mosquito populations that disperse into residential neighborhoods regularly throughout the season. Properties within a mile of either corridor tend to see higher and more persistent activity than more inland lots.
  • Lake Mackintosh proximity: The lake and its surrounding shoreline habitat contribute additional mosquito pressure to properties in western Burlington and nearby communities.
  • Older neighborhood canopy: Burlington's established residential areas carry mature hardwood canopy that gives daytime-biting mosquito species like the Asian tiger mosquito the shaded resting habitat they depend on between feedings.
  • Newer development with retention ponds: Growth along Burlington's outskirts has brought stormwater retention ponds that provide consistent standing water throughout the season, sustaining breeding populations close to newer neighborhoods.

Mosquito season in Burlington runs from approximately April through October, with peak pressure in June, July, and August. Getting treatment in place before late April is the most effective approach.

How Neuse Mosquito Control Works

The 21-Day Treatment Cycle

A mosquito completes its full life cycle in approximately 21 days. Monthly treatment programs leave a gap of seven to ten days every cycle during which a full new generation can emerge and reproduce. Neuse treats on a 21-day schedule, keeping continuous pressure on the mosquito population throughout the season without a mid-cycle recovery window.

Customers who switch from monthly programs consistently notice a more stable, more comfortable yard across the full season.

What Each Treatment Covers

At every service visit, your technician will:

  • Treat all shrubs, dense plantings, and shaded vegetation where adult mosquitoes rest
  • Address property perimeters, wooded borders, and fence lines where mosquito pressure enters from adjacent areas
  • Inspect for standing water sources and breeding conditions on the property
  • Flag anything worth addressing before the next scheduled visit

For Burlington properties near the Haw River corridor or retention pond areas, technicians pay particular attention to the yard's transition zones where pressure from outside sources tends to be highest.

Service Window

Mosquito service runs from approximately April through October. You will receive a notification before each scheduled visit and do not need to be home as long as treatment areas are accessible. Keep people and pets away from treated vegetation for 30 to 60 minutes after application.
